The Custom BC Coilover Kit is Ready for Installation

Some very pretty coilovers showed up recently. They were custom built at the BC factory with GC tops / bodies and GD bottoms, and were custom valved for my specific spring choice.

Note the SKU on the rear springs. “012″ stands for 12kg.

To some, this might seem stiff (it certainly did to me at first) but between the seam welding, insanely stiff cage, slicks, and the amount of downforce that is going to be generated with the wing and front splitter, I might end up needing MORE than 12kg springs in the rearĀ . Who knows, I might end up with 12k front / 15k rear down the road. For now we’re going to see how 10k front / 12k rear goes. For those of you that are metrically impaired, that’s 560 lbs/in front, 670 lbs/in rear.

Here’s one of my favorite goodies: rear camber plates.

And here’s another nice feature that, surprisingly, didn’t come standard with other coilovers I’ve used. The springs are locked in place and the ride height can be adjusted independently of the springs. With some other coilovers I’ve used, lowering the car actually moved the springs and as you lowered the car you progressively increased the spring rate (not what you want).

I’d like to give a big thank you to BC Racing as their turnaround on this custom kit was extremely fast. It’s not every day that people come asking for custom valving and spring rates for a coilover that has to bolt up to two different cars on the top and bottom. Not only did BC know EXACTLY what to do, they got it done in less than 2 weeks, and that included shipping from over seas!

On a side note, I’m heading to the body shop later today to grab some pics of the car. When I saw it on Friday all of the body work was done and it was primered inside and out. The fender side-marker holes are gone, the side moldings and holes are gone, the radio antenna hole is gone, and about 100 dings are out. It’s starting to look like a real car now, although it’s still lifted about a foot off the ground on stock suspension and rocking some 16″ steelies.
