It’s round 4 of the cage progress pictures…let’s get started!
First up, here you can see the door X tacked in place (no gusset yet) as well as the final bar in the rear that connects the bottom of the b-pillar main hoop to the rear strut:

This angle lets you see that bar a bit better, although it’s still in a shadow unfortunately:

And a close-up of the main hoop gusset because looking at pretty welds never gets old:

I don’t even have words for this:

Here’s the rear strut:

And the almost-finished bar that goes through the firewall to connect to the front strut:

Here’s the opposite angle so you can see how it actually connects to the strut:

Then we test fitted the seat so we had to temporarily put in the dash bar and steering column. The dash bar will be stripped down considerably more than this before it actually gets welded in to the car:

Then I got pissed off at my car and decided that I would never gouge my knee on one of these stupid stubs ever again. They are all over the floor and hold in stupid **** like carpet, plastic clips, etc. You can see two of them in this pic, one in the middle (under the sander) and one in the top right:

Do not mess with angry Ben!

So, what’s left to do? The driver-side X needs to be finished, then both of them needed to actually be welded. Once that’s done, the plates for the firewall need to be finished. Then the 2 tiny bars that will come down from the roof just in front of the dash will go in. On top of that, the harness bar was measured when we test fitted the seat and will actually pass straight through the X in the main hoop. As if that wasn’t enough, all of the seam welding will also be done. Now, that sounds like a week’s worth of work to me, if not more. However, Kyle says this will all be done by Sunday. Yes, two days from now. I have no idea how he’s going to do it, but the man is a miracle worker so I’ll be back there on Sunday to pick up the car and take pictures of the completed cage.
Stay tuned!
